FARO® Leap ST Handheld 3D Scanner
High-precision handheld 3D scanner with five versatile operating modes for advanced metrology applications.
Leap ST by FARO is a state-of-the-art handheld 3D metrology solution, combining high accuracy with compact design. Featuring five distinct operating modes, Leap ST delivers exceptional versatility and portability—enhancing workflows across a wide range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, transportation equipment, metals fabrication, and beyond.

The FARO® Leap ST Handheld 3D Scanner offers five distinct operating modes, providing maximum flexibility across a wide range of applications. Ultra-fast scanning enables rapid coverage, ideal for measuring features on small to medium-sized parts. Hyper fine scanning captures the intricate details of complex objects with the highest possible resolution. Photogrammetry mode maintains exceptional accuracy when working with large-scale objects. Deep hole scanning extends measurement capabilities into hard-to-reach areas and deep cavities, while large-area scanning is perfectly suited for capturing extensive features or performing an initial rough scan of medium to large parts.
Leap ST is designed for fast setup and accurate results. It minimizes the time required to prepare and restore parts, allowing users to scan a greater volume of parts more efficiently. This leads to significantly higher throughput while maintaining consistent precision, making it a powerful solution for demanding production environments.
With its five operating modes, Leap ST delivers outstanding versatility. Users can measure large assemblies and access complex, hard-to-reach features such as deep holes and fine details commonly found in intricate components like engine chassis. The scanner integrates directly with leading metrology software platforms and also offers a software development kit (SDK) for seamless incorporation into custom or automated measurement systems.
Leap ST meets the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. It is certified according to the rigorous VDI/VDE 2634 standard and supported by ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratories, ensuring that every measurement is traceable, repeatable, and dependable.
The Leap ST is engineered for ease of use, featuring a minimal learning curve thanks to its intuitive software integration. It works seamlessly with FARO CAM2 Scan Professional Software, part of the CAM2 Editions portfolio, and is also compatible with other major metrology platforms. This flexibility allows users to operate within their preferred software environment without the need for additional extensive training, reducing overall operational costs and simplifying team workflows.
Ultra-fast scanning, Leap ST’s primary mode, uses multiple lasers to quickly cover surfaces and identify key features across the entire field of view, enabling high-speed data acquisition without sacrificing accuracy. Hyper fine scanning, meanwhile, utilizes seven parallel lasers at a close standoff distance to achieve an extremely high point density—down to 0.010 spacing. This mode can be applied locally within an ultra-fast scanning workflow, allowing users to add high-resolution details only where needed, keeping the overall 3D model lightweight and optimized for subsequent processing steps.

Features
Below, you will find the main features of the product.
Hybrid Workflows
Leap ST enables quick switching between scanning modes, combining five operational options with excellent area coverage. This handheld 3D scanner minimizes setup times and maximizes flexibility for capturing small details and large geometries alike.
High Target Distance
Combining a highly efficient optical design with advanced algorithms, Leap ST requires fewer targets on parts, significantly cutting setup time. The result is fast, streamlined scanning workflows that deliver high-quality results without compromise.
Deep Hole
Leap ST’s innovative laser triangulation method reduces the baseline between projector and camera, dramatically improving the scanner’s ability to access deep holes and hard-to-reach features—capturing complex geometries with maximum allowable depth.
High Accuracy Scanning
Offering up to 20-micron accuracy, Leap ST is the perfect solution for large-area scanning tasks across automotive, aerospace, and shipbuilding industries. It allows users to scan expansive areas on-site without repositioning or realignment.
Large-area Scanning
With 11 parallel infrared laser lines, Leap ST covers a large scanning area, making it ideal for inspecting medium to large parts. It excels in capturing broad features or creating rough scans of larger components efficiently.
Any Surface Scanning
Leap ST is built to handle a wide variety of surfaces without sacrificing scan quality. Multiple scan modes allow it to adapt easily to complex inspection tasks and deliver precise results for specialized scanning requirements.
Scan Faster
The advanced optical setup allows for a wider distance between targets, reducing the time needed to prepare parts. Seamless transitions between operating modes let users keep scanning continuously, eliminating the need to pause or return to the computer mid-process.
Integration Ready
Leap ST offers full integration into automated production and assembly workflows through its available mechanical mount and Software Development Kit (SDK), making it an ideal choice for seamless incorporation into industrial systems.
Photogrammetry
Leap ST’s integrated photogrammetry function reduces trajectory-related errors. Unlike traditional systems that require many accessories, everything needed for photogrammetry—including scale bars—is provided straight out of the box.
